The following cases will give you a good idea of how some international students have used Erika Travel Insurance. Remember, most students never have to call Erika at all - but if anything does happen, it´s vital to know that we´re here.
Stolen property
A Russian student who went to England to learn English had her wallet and knapsack stolen right at the beginning of her trip. She had just changed money and lost a significant amount of cash. Her knapsack also contained a clock, camera and some clothes.
Since there were several weeks left before she was to return to Russia, and she had no way of obtaining money in England, Erika provided her with cash on the spot, so she could continue with her scheduled trip. In addition, she was compensated for the clothes and the camera.
Death in the family
An American student traveling through Spain on a school trip received the news that one of his family members had died. Erika immediately helped to book him a flight home, and paid for him to fly to Michigan in time for the funeral.
Medical insurance
A Brazilian student got pneumonia and needed to seek care while studying English in the UK. She was treated at an English hospital and, after having recovered, could continue her studies.
Erika reimbursed her for all medical costs as well as for school fees for the amount of days she had missed due to the illness.
Emergency situation
While in France on a year-abroad program, a student traveled to Romania with his host family. While seeing the sights, he was hit by a car, and suffered life-threatening injuries.
He was taken to the local hospital, but it did not have the resources or expertise to save the student's life. In addition, he was too weak to survive the long flight to his home country. So Erika contacted the nearest hospital where he could receive expert treatment - in Vienna, Austria - and received clearance for him to be transported there.
Erika then arranged for his evacuation from Romania via air ambulance. Accompanied by a specialist doctor and two intensive care nurses, the student survived the trip to Austria.
In Vienna, he received the treatment he needed, and Erika paid for his parents to join him during his recovery. Today, he is completely recovered and lives a healthy, happy life in his home country.
